Who We Are

Director and Founder, Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship:
Dr Hannah Burgon PhD, MA DipSW, MSc, BSc, Cert in Counselling, Cert in Riding Therapy

Hannah is a qualified Social Worker and has completed training in Riding Therapy and Equine Facilitated Learning. She holds BHS Stage 1 certificate, a Certificate in Counselling, and has recently completed a PhD into the benefits of Equine-Assisted Learning and Therapeutic Horsemanship under a scholarship at Cardiff University

Di Gammage – B.Ed(Hons), State Registered Dramatherapist, Play Therapist, Core-Process Psychotherapist
Di is a qualified teacher, play and dramatherapist and Core Process Psychotherapist. Di has many years experience of working with children and young people as a residential social worker, teacher and therapist. Di has had a passion for horses all her life and is now realising something she always knew intuitively; that horses can teach humans much about trust, love and healing.

Sessional staff
Our sessional staff hold a wide range of skills and qualifications and include:

Emma Matambanya
Emma has a diploma in counselling and besides Sirona, works in private practice and with the Domestic Violence and Abuse Service. She has a BA (hons) in Steiner/Waldorf Education where she focussed her studies on child development and emotional behavioural disturbances, and she also worked with children with EBD in primary schools. She is looking to start additional training in child counselling.

Jenny Saxby
As well as being a BHSAI instructor, Jenny has previously worked with our patron, International classical dressage trainer Heather Moffett

Angie Whitehead
Ange is also training in Forest School and will be able to offer skills from this training at Sirona alongside equine activities

Shaun Derioz
Shaun is our fabulous photograher and maintenance man (and Hannah’s husband!)

Additional sessional staff include our apprentice Ella, and horse handlers Dani Humphrey, Josie Arscott, Sarah Urwin and Cass Wynne

We also rely on fabulous volunteers such as Hesti , Emma Jones and our younger volunteers Tabs and Daisy who bring support in all areas such as poo-picking the fields, admin, running our website (thank Liza!) and support on sessions.
